Coruripe is a municipality on the southern coast of Alagoas, in northeastern Brazil. From above, the map combines three landscapes: the Atlantic shoreline with its long beaches and coastal villages, the river that gives the town its name, and the extensive sugarcane fields that cover much of the land inland.
The town centre follows a modest grid, with streets running toward the river and the coast, while smaller settlements line the shore. Sugarcane has long been the backbone of the local economy, and the large, regular shapes of the plantations show clearly around the urban area. The coast, with its reefs and coconut palms, draws visitors from the region.
