Valley-floor streets
The main streets follow the flat ground at the bottom of the valley. The town takes on a long, curving shape set by the surrounding hills instead of by planning.

Dashi Map Poster & Print
Dashi is a town in the southeast of Gansu Province, in the hill country of the upper Wei River basin. The landscape here is built from loess, the fine windblown soil that covers much of north-central China. It is carved into ridges, gullies and narrow valley floors. Settlement gathers where the ground is flat, so streets follow the valleys instead of any plan.
Around the town, the hillsides are shaped into stepped farming terraces. From above, these show up as fine contour lines wrapping around each slope. The built-up area is compact, with a main road through the centre and a few smaller streets branching off. Fields and scattered villages fill the surrounding folds of the land.
A Dashi map poster shows a place closely shaped by its terrain. The streets make up only part of the picture. The rest is the curve of the valley and the fields around it, which give even a small town a distinctive outline. It is a quiet, organic composition, very different from the grids of China's large cities.

Loess terraces
The surrounding slopes are farmed in narrow terraces that follow the contours. They add fine, rippling bands of texture around the settlement.
Country roads
Rural roads leave the town and wind up through the gullies to nearby villages. They are thin, meandering lines that show how people move through this broken landscape.

Zakaj Dashi
Zemljevid, ki nekaj pomeni
For families from eastern Gansu, a map of Dashi keeps the shape of home: the valley road, the terraced hills, the town at their centre. It is a modest, personal image that people rarely find ready-made for smaller towns.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line are all editable, so you can add the name in Chinese characters or a family date. There are five styles to choose from: Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand.
