East–west Mississippi
Here the Mississippi flows west, so the river crosses the frame horizontally, a distinctive orientation that sets Davenport apart from most other river towns along its course.

Davenport Map Poster & Print
Davenport lies on the Iowa bank of the Mississippi River, at a stretch where the river runs east to west rather than north to south. Downtown sits on the flat riverfront, and the street grid climbs steep bluffs behind it before spreading across the prairie. Across the water lie Rock Island and Moline, and together these cities form the Quad Cities.
Several bridges cross the river here, including the Centennial Bridge and the Government Bridge linking to Arsenal Island, home to the Rock Island Arsenal. Davenport is also known as the birthplace of jazz cornetist Bix Beiderbecke and as the home of Palmer College, the first school of chiropractic. Its riverfront is notable for largely doing without a permanent floodwall.
A Davenport map poster captures the tension between the broad, slow river and the orderly grid pressing up against it. The bluffs show where the streets bend and break, the island divides the channel, and the bridges draw fine straight lines across the water, giving the print a clear sense of place on one of America's great rivers.

Arsenal Island
Arsenal Island sits mid-river between Davenport and Rock Island, a long landmass reached by the Government Bridge and marked by the grounds of the Rock Island Arsenal.
Bluffside grid
Behind downtown the regular street grid rises onto the bluffs, where slopes interrupt some blocks and create the curving roads that soften the city's otherwise straight plan.

Zakaj Davenport
Zemljevid, ki nekaj pomeni
Davenport is a place people carry with them: river summers, college years at Palmer, family homes on the bluffs. A map of the city holds all of that in one quiet image, with the Mississippi at its centre and the Illinois shore just across the water.
Add your own title, a subtitle such as a neighbourhood or year, and the coordinates line. Pick Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The $9 digital download includes six sizes as 300 DPI PNG and PDF, or order a printed poster shipped from a nearby partner.
