Dhulagari lies in Howrah district, West Bengal, on the western outskirts of the Kolkata metropolitan area. It sits along National Highway 16, the old Bombay Road, and in recent decades it has grown into a hub for warehouses, trucking and small industry serving the city. Around this commercial strip, much of the area is still a mix of villages, fields and water.
From above, the highway is unmistakable, a broad straight line across the flat Gangetic plain. Large rectangular warehouses and yards line it on both sides, while older villages behind them form tight, irregular clusters.
