The Nile bend
The river passes close to town in a broad curve, its wide channel forming the strongest line on the map and setting the direction of every road and canal nearby.

Dishnā Map Poster & Print
Dishnā lies in Qena Governorate in Upper Egypt, on the east bank of the Nile where the river makes its great bend. On a map the town is a compact cluster of streets in the narrow cultivated valley, surrounded by rectangular field plots and irrigation channels that follow the river, with the desert waiting just beyond the last of the farmland.
The surrounding area holds a notable place in the study of early Christian manuscripts. The Bodmer Papyri are often said to have been found near Dishnā in the 1950s, and the Nag Hammadi codices were discovered not far away along the same stretch of the Nile. The town itself, though, is a working agricultural centre rather than a monument.
A Dishnā map poster shows the elemental geometry of the Nile Valley: the curving river, the long lines of canals and roads that run beside it, and the dense core of the town set among fields. In black and white, the boundary between cultivated land and open desert becomes a striking, almost abstract edge across the frame.

Irrigation canals
Thin canals and field boundaries run alongside the river, creating a fine parallel pattern that fills the valley floor around the town.
Desert edge
Past the last fields, the map opens into empty ground, a sharp transition that shows how closely life here is tied to the reach of the river's water.
