Elburg Map Poster & Print
Elburg, on the edge of the Veluwe in Gelderland, is one of the best-preserved small fortified towns in the Netherlands. Its old centre is a rare example of a planned medieval town. Parallel streets laid out in the late fourteenth century form a rectangle, crossed at right angles and enclosed by walls, bastions and a water-filled moat. From above, the geometry is immediately clear.
Elburg was a member of the Hanseatic League and traded across the Zuiderzee, and the Vischpoort, a surviving medieval gate, still faces the old harbour. After the Zuiderzee was closed off and Flevoland reclaimed, the town's waterfront became the narrow Veluwemeer, a lake that now separates it from the polder. On the map, the straight polder dikes and the old grid make a striking pair.
An Elburg map poster appeals to anyone who loves urban form, because few towns show their plan so plainly. It is also a fine memento for sailors who have moored in the harbour, cyclists passing along the Veluwemeer and residents who walk the ramparts. Printed in black and white, the fortifications read like an architectural drawing.

Moat and bastions
Water-filled canals and earthen bastions enclose the old town, drawing a crisp, angular outline around the grid on the finished print.
Veluwemeer shore
The narrow lake between the old coastline and the Flevoland polder runs past the harbour, with straight dikes and reclaimed fields beyond.

Zakaj Elburg
Zemljevid, ki nekaj pomeni
Elburg's plan is so legible that the map works as a piece of design in its own right, not just as a souvenir. Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, perhaps with the date of a visit or the name of a boat.
Blueprint emphasises the engineered geometry of walls and canals, while Classic black & white, Noir, Paper and Sand suit other interiors. Download the HD files for $9, or order a matte print with an optional wooden frame.
