Foothill Farms Map Poster & Print
Foothill Farms is an unincorporated community in Sacramento County, north of the city of Sacramento. Despite the name, the land here is almost flat; the Sierra Nevada foothills lie well to the east. What the map shows instead is a classic Californian suburb: looping streets, cul-de-sacs and long arterial roads that divide the neighbourhoods into large blocks.
The name points back to the area's agricultural past, before housing spread across it in the second half of the twentieth century. On a Foothill Farms map poster, the contrast between straight arterial roads and the soft curves of residential streets creates a pattern that is both orderly and relaxed, typical of Sacramento's northern suburbs.
To the west lies the former McClellan Air Force Base, now a business park, with its runway and large hangars forming a very different geometry. Neighbouring communities such as North Highlands and Antelope continue the suburban fabric, so the map reads as one piece of a larger residential landscape.

Arterial grid
Long, straight arterial roads divide the area into a coarse grid, providing a firm structure around the curving streets inside it.
McClellan runway
The runway of the former McClellan air base lies to the west, a single long line that stands out against the fine suburban texture.
