Frankston East sits on the south-eastern fringe of greater Melbourne, roughly forty kilometres from the city centre, where the metropolitan area begins to give way to the Mornington Peninsula. On a map it reads as a residential suburb rather than a town: loops, crescents and short cul-de-sacs branching off a few longer through roads, with pockets of open space set between the housing.
