The border river
A single river separates Hong’an from Chadong in Hunan and marks the provincial boundary, drawn as a solid band that splits the composition cleanly in two.

Hong’an Map Poster & Print
Hong’an lies in Xiushan county at the far southeastern tip of Chongqing, at the point where Chongqing, Hunan and Guizhou meet. From above it is a narrow riverside town, its streets pressed between a steep bank and the water, with an old quarter of stone lanes running parallel to the river and newer blocks climbing the slope behind.
Across the river stands Chadong in Hunan, the setting of Shen Congwen's novella Border Town, and the two settlements have long been linked by a hand-pulled ferry. On a map this makes an unusual composition: two small towns facing each other across one band of water, with a provincial border running down the middle.
A Hong’an map poster suits readers of Shen Congwen, travellers who have crossed the river here and people from the Xiushan area. The black-and-white treatment works especially well with the hilly terrain and the curve of the river, which frame the old town and give the print a sense of depth without any extra decoration.

Old riverside lanes
The historic part of town follows the riverbank in long, narrow lanes, a linear plan dictated by the slope and the water rather than by any planned grid.
Three-province junction
Hong’an sits where the borders of Chongqing, Hunan and Guizhou converge, a rare spot where three provincial-level regions fit on one modest print.

Zakaj Hong’an
Zemljevid, ki nekaj pomeni
