Irvington Map Poster & Print
Irvington is a township in Essex County, New Jersey, sharing its eastern border with Newark. Originally known as Camptown, it was renamed in 1852 after the writer Washington Irving. From above it is compact and almost entirely built up, a close pattern of short blocks lined with houses, small apartment buildings and corner stores, with few large open spaces.
Springfield Avenue runs diagonally through the township as its main commercial street, cutting across the grid and giving the map a strong directional line. On the west side the Garden State Parkway slices through in a wide corridor. A county park along a small stream offers one of the few green patches, and the township edges merge seamlessly into neighbouring towns.
An Irvington map poster captures the texture of an older inner-ring suburb, where every block is used and the streets form a fine, regular mesh. Printed in black and white, the diagonal avenue and the parkway stand out against the grid, making a clear and graphic image of a place many families have passed through on their way through the region.
