Jiasi lies in the south-western part of Chongqing municipality, in the hilly country south of the Yangtze River. The terrain here is folded into ridges and valleys, and there is little flat land to build on. On the map the town fits itself into that topography, with streets following the valley floors and bending around slopes instead of forming a regular grid.
Chongqing is known for building on steep ground, and even its small towns share that character. Roads zigzag up hillsides, terraced fields step down the slopes, and streams cut through the lower ground. Around Jiasi the built-up core soon gives way to farmland and wooded hills, with rural roads threading between scattered hamlets.
