Kentwood Map Poster & Print
Kentwood lies directly south and southeast of Grand Rapids in western Michigan, and its map shows the survey grid of the Midwest very clearly. Main roads run at regular intervals north-south and east-west, marking out square-mile sections. Inside each square, the pattern changes: curving subdivision streets, cul-de-sacs, industrial parks, school campuses and patches of woodland and parkland.
The city was formed from Paris Township and incorporated as a city in 1967. It grew quickly after the Second World War as Grand Rapids expanded outward. Today it is a mix of residential neighbourhoods and commercial corridors, with major retail along 28th Street, and Gerald R. Ford International Airport lies just beyond its eastern boundary.
A Kentwood map poster makes the tension between the rigid mile grid and the looser shapes inside it visible. Straight arterial roads frame dense clusters of curving streets, a very characteristic suburban pattern. It suits people who grew up here, bought a first home in one of its neighbourhoods or simply like the geometry of the American Midwest.

Curving subdivisions
Within each square, residential streets loop and curl into cul-de-sacs. The texture is organic, in contrast with the straight arterials around it.
28th Street corridor
The major commercial road crosses the north of the city, lined with large retail sites whose broad footprints stand out on the map.

Zakaj Kentwood
Zemljevid, ki nekaj pomeni
Kentwood is where many people bought their first house, raised children or grew up biking around the subdivision. A map of those squares and loops is a very personal print, and each person will look first for their own street.
