The level plain
Without hills to bend them, the roads run straight across the landscape and give the whole map a calm, measured geometry.

Lanshan Map Poster & Print
Lanshan lies in the north of Jiangsu, in the low, level country of the Huai River basin. From above, the land is almost perfectly flat, and this gives the map its character: long, straight roads, regular field boundaries and drainage channels that run in parallel lines across the plain around the town.
The town itself is a compact settlement where the main roads meet. Its streets form a rough grid, with denser older lanes at the centre and wider blocks toward the edges. Villages dot the surrounding countryside at regular intervals, linked by smaller roads through the fields.
A Lanshan map poster is a study of order on a plain: the tight grid of the town, the ruled lines of the farmland and the thin channels that carry water across it. It is a spare, graphic image, well suited to a minimalist black-and-white print.

Water channels
Canals and drainage ditches cross the fields in long lines, a common feature of the Huai basin, and they add fine detail between the roads.
Compact centre
The town is dense at the crossroads and opens outward, a clear dark core surrounded by the lighter pattern of the countryside.
