Dense old core
The centre is a tight mesh of short, irregular lanes. On the print it forms the darkest, most detailed patch, surrounded by lighter ground.

Lar Map Poster & Print
Lar lies in the Deoria district of eastern Uttar Pradesh, close to the border with Bihar, on the wide, flat plain of the Ganges basin. On a map, the town is a dense centre of narrow lanes and closely packed buildings. The fabric loosens quickly toward the edges, where a surrounding patchwork of cultivated land takes over.
The plain here is almost level, so roads run long and fairly straight between neighbouring towns and villages, and the railway adds another firm line across the landscape. Small ponds and water tanks, a common feature of settlements in the region, appear as scattered pale shapes among the streets and fields.
A Lar map poster shows the typical shape of a north Indian market town: an intricate core that grew organically, a few main roads that carry most of the traffic, and a clear transition to open country. In monochrome, the density of the centre stands out against the calm geometry of the fields.

Railway line
A railway crosses the area as a steady, unbroken line. It contrasts with the wandering lanes of the town and helps orient the whole map.
Tanks and ponds
Small bodies of water are spread around the town and its fringe. They show up as simple pale shapes that punctuate the street pattern.

Zemljevid, ki nekaj pomeni
Many families from eastern Uttar Pradesh live far from where they grew up. A precise map of the home town is a personal thing to keep, and the dense lanes make for an unexpectedly striking image on the wall.
