The land slopes gently from the higher interior toward the western coast, and the street pattern follows the terrain rather than a strict grid.
The area forms part of the growing suburban belt around the capital, with houses, local shops and small businesses along the main roads. Fields of sugarcane, long a defining feature of the Mauritian landscape, have traditionally surrounded many of the settlements in this part of the island.
