Le Pontet lies on the northeastern edge of Avignon, in the Vaucluse department, and on a map the two run into each other with no gap between them. It is a town of the lower Rhône valley, flat and low-lying. Rivers, orchards and market gardens shaped the landscape for a long time, and roads, housing and commercial development have shaped it more recently.
The street pattern mixes different eras. A small old village core sits among later housing estates laid out in loops and cul-de-sacs, while large retail and business zones appear as broad blocks with wide roads and car parks. Major roads and a railway line pass through the commune, linking Avignon with the towns to the north and east.
