Valley setting
The town occupies a flatter stretch of valley floor, so the built area forms a narrow shape defined by the rising ground on either side.

Longshan Map Poster & Print
Longshan lies in eastern Gansu, in the heart of the Loess Plateau, one of the most distinctive landscapes in China. Seen from above, the land is heavily folded. Ridges and ravines cut by erosion spread in every direction, and the town sits where a valley floor offers enough flat ground for streets and buildings.
Roads here follow the valleys first and climb second. The main routes run along the lower ground, while smaller ones wind up the slopes toward villages and fields. Many hillsides are terraced, and on a detailed map those stepped fields appear as fine parallel lines following the contours.
A Longshan map poster reflects that interplay between town and terrain. The streets form a compact, relatively regular core, surrounded by the branching lines of ravines and paths. It is a map where the land itself does much of the drawing.

Loess ravines
Erosion has cut branching ravines into the soft loess, and the paths and streams that follow them create a tree-like pattern across the map.
Terraced slopes
Farmland climbs the hillsides in terraces, visible as tight parallel curves that trace the contours and give the landscape its layered appearance.
