Longsheng lies in the southern part of the Chongqing municipality. This is hilly country where ridges, small valleys and terraced fields make up most of the landscape. The town has settled where the ground flattens enough to build. Its streets form a compact, irregular core that stretches along the lower land rather than spreading evenly outward.
Roads leading out of town wind across the slopes in long curves, connecting farming villages scattered over the hills. Streams and small reservoirs sit in the folds of the land. Beyond the town's edge, the map becomes mostly open space, marked only by thin lines of rural roads and the outlines of water.
