Hilltop old town
The historic centre sits on a rise, and streets lead away from it in every direction. On the map it is a small, dense focal point at the top of the town.

Lüdenscheid Map Poster & Print
Lüdenscheid lies in the Sauerland in North Rhine-Westphalia, and it is one of the few German towns of its size that doesn't grow along a major river. It sits on hills instead. From above, the old town occupies a rise, and the streets branch out from it along ridges and down into narrow valleys, with forest filling the steeper slopes between districts.
The town has long been a centre of metalworking. It was known for buttons in the past, and today it calls itself the city of light because of its lighting industry. The A45 motorway runs past the town on the Sauerland line, and the closure and demolition of its Rahmede viaduct in the early 2020s made Lüdenscheid national news.
A Lüdenscheid map poster turns this hilly terrain into a lively pattern. There is the compact old centre on its hill, curving roads following the contours, and dense neighbourhoods broken up by strips of woodland and valley. In black and white, the town looks almost organic. It is a very different image from the flat, gridded maps of the Rhineland lowlands.

Contour streets
Roads curve along ridges and drop into valleys rather than following a grid. This gives the whole poster a flowing, branching structure.
Sauerland forest
Wooded slopes and nearby reservoirs frame the built-up area. They appear as open or softly textured space between the districts.

Zakaj Lüdenscheid
Zemljevid, ki nekaj pomeni
People from Lüdenscheid know its steep streets and forest walks well, and they tend to feel a strong bond with the Sauerland. A map that shows the town on its hills makes that bond visible in a quiet way.
Personalise the title and subtitle, perhaps with a street or a year, and set the coordinates line. Then choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Paper or Noir both suit the wooded terrain.
