Brantas ravine
The river winds through the centre in a deep channel, splitting districts and pulling streets towards a handful of bridges. It gives the map a strong natural line that no grid could produce.

Malang Map Poster & Print
Malang sits on a plateau in East Java several hundred metres above sea level, surrounded by volcanic peaks: Arjuno to the north, Kawi to the west and the Tengger massif and Semeru to the east and southeast. The altitude gives the city a milder climate than the coastal lowlands, which made it a favoured town for Dutch planters and officials in the colonial period.
The Brantas River, the second-longest in Java, runs through the city in a steep-sided channel, and several tributaries cut ravines of their own. From above these appear as dark winding lines that the street network has to bridge again and again. The river valleys also keep narrow green strips running through otherwise dense neighbourhoods.
In the early twentieth century the architect Thomas Karsten drew up extension plans for Malang, and his work is still visible in the wide, tree-lined Ijen Boulevard and the planned residential streets around it. A Malang map poster shows the contrast between that orderly colonial quarter and the tighter, organic lanes of the older kampungs nearby.

Ijen Boulevard
A broad avenue from the Dutch-era expansion, with a planted median and large houses on either side. Its straight, generous form stands out clearly against the smaller surrounding streets.
Alun-alun square
The traditional town square in the centre, the reference point around which older Javanese towns were organised. On the poster it appears as a small open space in the densest part of the city.

Zakaj Malang
Zemljevid, ki nekaj pomeni
Malang is a university city, and many people spend their student years there before moving elsewhere in Indonesia or abroad. A map of the streets around a campus or a first rented room makes a considered gift for a graduation or a move.
Personalise the title, add a subtitle with a date or a name, and adjust the coordinates line. Blueprint and Noir suit the dense street pattern, while Paper and Sand give it a softer look. A free 900 px preview lets you check the framing before you buy.
