The lake itself
A compact, rounded lake near the centre of the community, with a public park on its shore, gives the composition a natural focal point among the houses.

Martha Lake Map Poster & Print
Martha Lake is a residential community north of Seattle, between Lynnwood and Mill Creek, and its map is classic Pacific Northwest suburb. Curving streets split off from a few arterial roads into dead ends and loops, and the blocks are broken up by stands of evergreen forest and wetland. The small lake at its centre is the one open body of water in the pattern.
The lake gives the area its name and a park on its shore, and on a map it is a clean, rounded shape surrounded by the tight swirl of residential streets. To the west, the straight corridor of Interstate 5 runs north–south, a contrast with the meandering lanes that fill the rest of the community.
A Martha Lake map poster makes the most of that contrast. The lake sits like a full stop in the middle, the cul-de-sacs curl around it, and the highway draws a firm edge. This kind of map is more about neighbourhood than skyline, and it tends to mean most to the people who live on one of those loops.

Cul-de-sac swirl
Residential streets branch, curve and end in turning circles, producing a dense, almost botanical pattern that is typical of suburbs in western Washington.
Interstate edge
Interstate 5 passes just to the west as a long straight line, a sharp geometric counterpoint to the soft curves of the neighbourhood streets.
