Mount Royal slope
The downtown campus climbs from Sherbrooke Street toward the park on the mountain, and the steepness of the slope shapes its winding upper roads and stepped buildings.

McGill University Map Poster & Print
McGill University's main campus sits in downtown Montreal, on the lower slopes of Mount Royal. From above it reads as a green wedge between Sherbrooke Street and the mountain, with buildings climbing the hillside and the Roddick Gates opening onto the lower campus. The downtown street grid stops at its edge, and the park above takes over.
Founded in 1821 through the bequest of the merchant James McGill, the university also runs the Macdonald Campus in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, at the western end of the Island of Montreal. There, farm fields, research plots and the Morgan Arboretum spread out near the water where the Ottawa River meets Lake Saint-Louis.
A McGill University map poster brings out how closely the university is bound to the island's landscape: one campus pressed against the slope of a mountain, the other spread along the shoreline where the waters around Montreal meet. Both give a black-and-white print strong edges and plenty of texture.

Lower campus field
Just inside the Roddick Gates, a central lawn crossed by walkways opens up the lower campus, a rare open space in the middle of the downtown grid.
Macdonald Campus
At the island's western tip, McGill's agricultural and environmental campus sits among fields and woodland beside the water, a completely different pattern from the city campus.

Zakaj McGill University
Zemljevid, ki nekaj pomeni
McGill alumni carry a strong image of Montreal: the climb up steep streets in winter, the traffic on Sherbrooke, the mountain just above. A map captures that geography, and the Macdonald Campus adds a quieter, greener story for those who studied there.
