Montclair Map Poster & Print
Montclair lies in Essex County, New Jersey, on the eastern slope of the first Watchung Mountain. From above, the lower town has a more regular pattern of streets around Bloomfield Avenue and the railway, while the upper parts curve and climb with the ridge. Large residential lots, mature trees and winding roads give the western side a softer, more organic texture.
A commuter rail line runs through Montclair with several stations, which helped the town grow as a residential suburb of New York. The Montclair Art Museum, the Presby Iris Gardens and parks along the ridge are well known locally, and from the high ground there are views east across the plain to the Manhattan skyline.
A Montclair map poster shows how the town rises from the flatter blocks near the railway towards the ridge, where streets bend with the slope. Bloomfield Avenue cuts diagonally through the centre, giving the composition a strong line. It is an image of a suburb shaped as much by terrain as by transport.

Bloomfield Avenue
The main commercial street runs diagonally through Montclair, lined with shops and restaurants, and it forms the strongest line crossing the residential pattern.
Rail stations
Several stations on the commuter line serve different parts of town, and the railway traces a clear path through the lower districts towards New York.
