Regular street grid
Much of the city follows a straight grid of residential blocks. On a poster this gives an even, woven texture that fills the frame with quiet repetition.

Montes Claros Map Poster & Print
Montes Claros sits on the high plateau of northern Minas Gerais, in the transition zone toward the Brazilian sertão. On a map the city appears as a large, fairly compact urban area surrounded by open land. Highways and rural roads radiate outward, and the built-up area thins quickly into farmland and dry scrub.
The street pattern is largely a grid, the planned layout common in Brazilian interior cities. Straight residential blocks extend in several directions from the older centre. Main avenues cut through the grid and link neighbourhoods on the edges, and green areas and small watercourses break the pattern here and there.
Montes Claros is often called the main city of the north of Minas. It is the commercial, educational and medical centre for a large and thinly populated region. A Montes Claros map poster shows that role from above: one dense cluster of streets on an open plateau, with roads spreading out toward the towns it serves.

Radiating highways
Several major roads leave the city in different directions toward the rest of the region. They draw long, straight lines out of the dense centre into open country.
Plateau surroundings
Around the edges the built-up area gives way to open land. The city's outline is clear and compact, set against the sparse roads of the surrounding sertão.
