Old village core
Near the church the streets remain narrow and irregular. They trace the outline of the village Hugo described, before the suburbs of Paris reached it.

Montfermeil Map Poster & Print
Montfermeil stands on a plateau in Seine-Saint-Denis, east of Paris. Victor Hugo set part of Les Misérables here, in the village where young Cosette lived with the Thénardiers and fetched water from the woods at night. More recently, Ladj Ly set his 2019 film of the same name in the town, giving it a second life on screen.
The map records several eras at once. The old village core keeps an irregular pattern of narrow streets around its church. Twentieth-century estates such as Les Bosquets appear as larger blocks with open ground between buildings. Detached houses fill the gentler slopes in small plots, and patches of forest, remnants of the wooded hills east of Paris, frame the town.
A Montfermeil map poster suits readers of Hugo, film lovers and, above all, residents who know the town beyond its reputation. In black and white, the contrast between village lanes, modern estates and woodland becomes a clear portrait of a Paris suburb that has changed many times without losing its hilltop setting.

Estates on the plateau
Large post-war housing blocks sit in open grounds on the plateau and read on the map as bold shapes separated by paths and green space.
Wooded edges
Remnants of forest border the town. On the print they are soft blank areas that recall the dark woods where Cosette went to fetch water.

Zakaj Montfermeil
