Diagonal rail corridor
The Metra line to Chicago runs at an angle across the village grid. The compact downtown sits beside the station, where the diagonal meets the main roads.

Mount Prospect Map Poster & Print
Mount Prospect is a village in Cook County, Illinois, northwest of Chicago and close to O'Hare International Airport. Its map follows the Midwestern survey grid: long, straight arterial roads mark out square-mile sections. Inside those squares, the residential streets bend into loops and cul-de-sacs, which gives the plan a regular frame filled with softer, suburban detail.
One strong diagonal crosses the grid. The Metra Union Pacific Northwest line and the road that runs beside it cut through the village at an angle, and the historic downtown grew around the station. That slanted line, set against the rectilinear sections, is the feature most people recognise when they look at the village from above.
A Mount Prospect map poster shows that interplay precisely. Arterials become firm straight strokes, the rail line slices across them, and the curving residential blocks fill each section with fine texture. It is an orderly, understated image that suits a suburb built around commuting, family houses and neighbourhood parks, and it looks at home in a kitchen, hallway or home office.

Square-mile sections
Straight arterial roads divide the village into large, near-square blocks. This is the survey pattern that shapes much of the land around Chicago.
Curving residential streets
Inside each section, the streets loop, bend and end in cul-de-sacs. Postwar suburban planning left a fine, organic texture within the rigid frame.
