Oulmès is a small town in the highlands east of Rabat, on a plateau at the edge of the Middle Atlas. From above, it is a compact settlement: a modest street network grouped on high ground, with open, rolling country spreading in every direction. A few roads lead out across the plateau, linking it to the surrounding villages and the larger towns farther away.
The name is familiar across Morocco because of the mineral springs nearby, which give their name to one of the country's best-known bottled waters. On the map, the town itself stays small and clearly defined, and the surrounding landscape of fields, pasture and scattered woodland dominates the sheet.
