Sparse road network
There are only a few roads, and each one stands out clearly. The poster becomes an almost abstract drawing of routes connecting the town to the nearby countryside.

Paek'ak Map Poster & Print
Paek'ak is a town in South Pyongan Province, North Korea. From above, the map is mostly the texture of the countryside: short road segments, clusters of low-density blocks and the lines of irrigation and farm tracks that link settlements to the fields around them. The street network is sparse compared with a large city, which leaves a lot of open space on the page.
Detailed public information about Paek'ak is limited, so the map itself is the most honest portrait available. It shows where roads meet, where buildings gather and how the terrain shapes the routes between them. In this part of the country, low hills and cultivated valleys often set the direction of the roads. The resulting lines look drawn by the land rather than by planners.
A Paek'ak map poster is an unusual, minimal piece. The open spaces carry as much weight as the lines, and the black-and-white rendering suits that restraint. It works for people with family ties to the region, collectors of maps of rarely charted places, and anyone who likes a composition where a few roads and waterways do all the work.

Field and water lines
Thin lines of watercourses and field boundaries add fine texture between the main roads. They hint at the agricultural land that surrounds the settlement.
Open composition
Large areas of empty paper give the print a calm, spacious feel, very different from dense city maps. It suits minimalist interiors.
