Pasaje is in El Oro province in southern Ecuador, a short drive inland from Machala. It lies along the Jubones River, where the river leaves the Andean foothills and spreads across the lowlands toward the Pacific. On a map, the town is framed by the river on one side and extensive plantations on the other.
The surrounding land is part of one of the world's major banana-growing regions, and the plantations around Pasaje form long rectangular blocks crossed by irrigation channels and service roads.
