Peking University Map Poster & Print
Peking University traces its origins to the Imperial University of Peking, established in 1898, and is one of the most prominent universities in China. Its main campus lies in Haidian District in northwest Beijing, on grounds that once belonged to classical gardens and were later used by Yenching University. The imperial gardens of the Summer Palace and Yuanmingyuan lie a short distance away.
The map shows a campus quite unlike Beijing's straight ring roads and grid. In the northern part, Weiming Lake forms an irregular body of water with an island, surrounded by curving paths and small ponds. Further south, the layout becomes more regular, with courtyards, teaching buildings and sports fields arranged in rows.
A Peking University map poster captures that meeting of garden design and modern campus planning. The soft edges of the lake and the winding paths stand out against the straight avenues of the district outside the walls. On a printed sheet, it offers a rare view of a place many people know only through its reputation.
