Purral is a district in the canton of Goicoechea, in the San José province of Costa Rica, on the northeastern edge of the capital's metropolitan area. On a map it appears as a tightly built area of residential streets on rising ground, with roads bending to follow the slopes and ravines. Further up, housing gives way to green hillsides.
The district is primarily residential and closely tied to the rest of greater San José, with many people commuting into the city. Its layout reflects the topography of the Central Valley's edge: streets are not set out on a single grid, but arranged in blocks that fit between streams and changes in slope.
