Qarqīn Map Poster & Print
Qarqīn lies in Jowzjan Province in the far north of Afghanistan, on the flat lowlands near the Amu Darya, the river that forms much of the country's northern border. The border with Turkmenistan runs close by. The town sits in a landscape of irrigated fields and canals, with desert at the margins.
Settlement here follows the water. Houses and walled compounds cluster along roads and irrigation channels, and the fields around them form a patchwork of small, irregular plots. The wider region has a long tradition of carpet weaving among its Turkmen communities, a craft closely associated with northern Afghanistan.
A Qarqīn map poster shows a place without a formal grid, where canals, tracks and field boundaries draw the map as much as streets do. Where the wide, braided course of the Amu Darya falls within the frame, it gives the composition a strong natural edge.
