Reichenbach im Vogtland lies in the rolling hills of western Saxony. Its map reflects the terrain. Streets climb and curve around the slopes, and the old market square sits at the centre of a network that spreads out along the valleys. The town grew through the textile industry, which shaped much of the Vogtland region. Nearby, between Reichenbach and Plauen, stands the Göltzsch Viaduct, the world's largest brick-built bridge. It carries a railway high over the Göltzsch valley.
