Roxas City, the capital of Capiz province, sits on the northern coast of Panay facing the Sibuyan Sea. On a map, the Panay River loops through the city centre before reaching the coast. Around the urban core lie low wetlands, fishponds and mangrove areas, crossed by roads that lead inland toward the rest of the province.
The city calls itself the Seafood Capital of the Philippines, a reputation built on the fishponds and coastal waters around it. Capiz is also known for its translucent capiz shells, traditionally used in windows and lamps.
