Senec lies on the flat Danubian Lowland, a short drive east of Bratislava. What sets it apart on the map is water. On the town's edge are the Slnečné jazerá, or Sunny Lakes, a group of former gravel-pit lakes that became one of the best-known summer swimming spots in western Slovakia.
The town itself is compact. Its centre gathers around a main square and a few older streets, and newer residential areas spread outward onto former farmland. Among the historic buildings is the sixteenth-century Turkish House. The Bratislava–Galanta railway runs along the town, and the D1 motorway passes nearby.
