Sepang is a district in southern Selangor, and its map is defined less by a single town than by several large and very different pieces of infrastructure. Kuala Lumpur International Airport covers a vast site of parallel runways and terminals, and the Sepang International Circuit lies right beside it. Planned townships, plantation roads and the district seat at Salak Tinggi fill the space in between.
The circuit hosted the Malaysian Formula One Grand Prix from 1999 to 2017 and still hosts MotoGP. To the north, Cyberjaya and Putrajaya extend the planned landscape. To the west the land flattens toward mangroves and the coast of the Strait of Malacca, with the small town of Sepang itself near the shore.
