Serra Preta Map Poster & Print
Serra Preta is a municipality in the interior of Bahia, in northeastern Brazil, in the drier country inland from the Recôncavo. The name means black range and points to the higher ground nearby. On a map the town centre is compact, a small grid of streets with roads leaving in several directions across a largely rural municipality.
Outside the town, open land dominates the map: farms, pasture, scattered hamlets and unpaved roads that follow the lie of the ground. Small reservoirs and seasonal streams appear here and there, which matters in a region where water is carefully stored. Because the built-up area is small, the countryside around it takes up much of the composition.
A Serra Preta map poster shows the town at a scale that includes both the centre and the countryside it serves. The contrast between a tight cluster of streets and wide rural space is the heart of the design. It is a fitting piece for people from the Bahian interior who want something understated.

Rural road network
Unpaved roads and tracks run out to farms and hamlets, bending with the terrain. They give the outer parts of the poster a loose, hand-drawn feel.
Small reservoirs
Ponds and reservoirs dot the landscape. They appear as small solid shapes that add points of interest to the largely empty surroundings.
