Lakes at the door
The town sits directly on lakes that come right up to its streets, so much of the frame is open water with the urban area gathered along the shore.

Shatura Map Poster & Print
Shatura lies in the far east of Moscow Oblast, in the flat, wet Meshchera lowlands. On a map it is defined by water: lakes press against the town, and the surrounding land is cut by drainage channels and old peat workings. The streets form a modest, regular pattern between the shorelines, and the forest around it is dense.
The town grew up around the Shatura power station, one of the first large plants built under the early Soviet electrification plan and designed to burn local peat. The station still stands beside the lake, and the peat fields, many of them now flooded or overgrown, account for the many straight-edged ponds and ditches visible across the area.
A Shatura map poster shows how landscape and industry fit together here. The lakes appear as large open shapes, the drainage network as fine parallel lines, and the town as a compact cluster at the water's edge. It is quiet and precise, suited to a clean black-and-white composition.

Peat-field geometry
Old peat extraction left straight channels and rectangular ponds around Shatura, a regular pattern that stands out against the softer outlines of the natural lakes.
The power station
The early Soviet power plant on the lakeshore sets the town's industrial character, with its site and access roads forming a distinct block beside the water.
