Valley alignment
The main streets run along the valley rather than across it. This gives the town a long, directional shape that suits a portrait poster, with the surrounding terrain left as calm empty space.

Shawan Map Poster & Print
Shawan sits in the southern part of Gansu, where the uplands of China's northwest give way to steeper, more folded country. From above, the town is a narrow settlement fitted into a valley floor. Its roads run lengthwise because the terrain leaves little room for anything else. The page is shaped more by the edges of the hills and a winding watercourse than by any grid.
On a Shawan map poster the empty space matters as much as the streets. White areas stand in for hillsides, and the built-up area gathers along a thin line before thinning out into scattered lanes and field tracks. The image is quiet and linear, closer to a drawing of a river than a city plan, and it looks best at a larger print size.
With around twenty thousand residents, Shawan rarely appears on printed maps at all. That is part of the appeal for people with a family or working connection here. A poster gives the town its own sheet of paper, drawn with the same care as a capital, and puts the exact bends of its roads on the wall.

River line
A watercourse threads through the frame and sets the curve that nearby roads follow. On a monochrome print it becomes the strongest single line, pulling the eye from one edge to the other.
Edge of town
Where the built-up area ends, dense street lines fade into sparse tracks and field paths. The gradual fade shows how closely settlement here depends on the little flat ground available.

Zakaj Shawan
Zemljevid, ki nekaj pomeni
Maps of small mountain towns are rarely sold anywhere, so a poster of Shawan tends to be personal: a birthplace, a work posting, or a stop on a long journey through Gansu. The narrow, river-led layout makes an unusual and quietly graphic piece for a hallway or study.
You can set your own title and subtitle, add a date and edit the coordinates line. Then choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Download the HD files in six sizes for $9, or order a printed poster on matte paper, framed if you like.
