Shchigry Map Poster & Print
Shchigry lies in Kursk Oblast, north-east of Kursk, in the fertile black-earth region of central Russia. The town sits in the shallow valley of a small river, and its streets spread across the gentle slopes on either side. From above, the built-up area is surrounded by broad, open fields divided into large rectangles, with lines of trees along the roads and field edges.
The railway between Kursk and Voronezh passes through the town, and the station area forms a distinct cluster of tracks and industrial sites. The central streets follow the regular layout typical of Russian district towns of the late eighteenth century, when Shchigry received town status. Later districts of low houses and apartment blocks extend outward in a looser pattern.
Shchigry is also linked with Ivan Turgenev, whose story Hamlet of the Shchigry District appears in A Sportsman's Sketches. A Shchigry map poster captures the calm structure of a provincial Russian town: a river valley, a railway, orderly streets and fields reaching to the horizon.

Railway line

Black-earth fields
Large rectangular fields surround the town, separated by tree belts and farm roads. They fill the edges of the poster with broad, quiet geometry.
