The Irrawaddy
The river sweeps past the town in a wide channel, and its islands and sandbars create soft, layered shapes across the centre of the frame.

Shwegu Map Poster & Print
Shwegu sits on the Irrawaddy in Myanmar's Kachin State, downstream of Bhamo. The river is the dominant feature on any map of the area. It is wide and slow, split by sandbanks and islands that shift with the seasons. The town lines the bank in a narrow strip, with its streets running parallel to the water and short lanes leading down to the shore.
Behind the riverside, the settlement quickly gives way to fields, villages and low wooded land, so the built area stays compact. Shwegu is known within Myanmar for its pottery, a craft long practised in the town and nearby villages. The river has always carried both the clay goods and the people who trade them.
A Shwegu map poster is mostly about water and edges: the long curve of the Irrawaddy, the soft outlines of its islands, and the thin line of the town holding the bank. It is a spare, restful image, and for anyone connected to Kachin State it is a personal one.

Riverfront strip
The streets of Shwegu run along the bank in a narrow band, a simple linear pattern set against the breadth of the water.
Rural surroundings
Beyond the town, the map opens into scattered lanes and farmland, which keeps the composition light and places the river firmly at its centre.
