Irrigation canals
Canals and drains cross the surrounding farmland in long, straight lines, giving the print a structured, almost ruled texture around the town.

Şidfā Map Poster & Print
Şidfā lies in Asyut governorate in Upper Egypt, south of the city of Asyut, on the fertile strip of the Nile valley. It is the centre of a district of the same name, and like many towns in the region it depends closely on the river and on the irrigation network that carries its water out across the flood plain.
On a map the valley has an unmistakable structure. The cultivated land is divided into long, narrow fields bounded by canals and drainage channels, and the town appears as a compact knot of closely packed streets within them. Lanes are short and irregular, following old property lines, while a few wider roads link Şidfā to the villages and highways along the valley.
Beyond the green belt the land turns abruptly to desert, which a street map leaves almost empty, and that contrast between irrigated ground and bare plateau is one of the defining images of Upper Egypt. A Şidfā map poster frames the town inside its agricultural setting, with canals running like fine lines across the frame and the dense centre drawn as a single dark mass.

A compact centre
The old core is a tight mass of narrow lanes and small blocks, typical of Nile valley towns where land for building has always been scarce.
Fields in strips
Farm plots are long and narrow, laid out between waterways, so the countryside around Şidfā reads as a fine, directional pattern rather than empty space.
