The surrounding country is one of the main agricultural regions of the country, with rice paddies, irrigation channels and low hills. Outside Korea, Sinch’ŏn is best known for a museum dedicated to the killing of civilians in the area during the Korean War in late 1950, events whose details and responsibility are still debated by historians.
