Sea on one side
The western edge of the map is open water. The coastline gives the composition a firm boundary, and the street pattern thins out as it gets close to the shore.

Singkawang Map Poster & Print
Singkawang sits on the west coast of Borneo, a few kilometres north of the equator. From above, the town is a compact core of streets pressed between the sea and a line of forested hills inland. A river winds through the centre toward the coast. Around the core, roads run out into farmland and scattered settlements, and the density of the grid drops off quickly.
The city is known across Indonesia for its large Chinese-Indonesian community, mostly of Hakka descent, and for the many Chinese temples that have earned it the nickname city of a thousand temples. Its Cap Go Meh celebrations, held fifteen days after the Lunar New Year, draw visitors from across the country. You won't see temple roofs on a map, but the old commercial centre shows up clearly as the tightest part of the street pattern.
A Singkawang map poster reduces all of this to line and space. The coastline forms one clean edge and the hills leave a quieter area on the other side, with the town's streets gathered in between. In black and white you can see how a trading town on this coast grew outward from its river and market streets toward the higher ground behind.

Hills inland
Forested high ground rises behind the town. On the poster it appears as a large calm area with only a few roads, a clear contrast to the dense centre.
River through town
A river crosses the urban area on its way to the sea. Its curve breaks up the grid, and the older streets gather along it.

Zakaj Singkawang
Zemljevid, ki nekaj pomeni
People who grew up in Singkawang or have family there often want a reminder of the town's particular geography: the sea, the hills and the streets between them. Visitors who came for Cap Go Meh sometimes choose it to remember where they spent the festival.
You can add your own title, a subtitle such as a family name or year, and a coordinates line, then choose one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The digital files cost $9, or you can order a printed poster.
