Test and Itchen
Two rivers frame the city on either side before merging into Southampton Water, giving the map a strong peninsular outline that is easy to recognise from a distance.

Southampton Map Poster & Print
Southampton occupies a broad peninsula where the River Test and the River Itchen meet at the head of Southampton Water. That shape shows immediately on a map. Water wraps around the city on three sides, and docks, quays and container berths line the western shore. Unusually, the estuary has a double high tide, which has helped make the port one of Britain's busiest.
The old town at the southern tip keeps long stretches of medieval walls, and the Bargate still stands as the northern gateway. Just north of it, a chain of central parks runs as a green band through the middle of the city. In April 1912 the Titanic left from these docks, and the port has handled ocean liners and cruise ships ever since.
A Southampton map poster shows the city's layers at once: the irregular old streets inside the walls, the Victorian terraces spreading north, and the long engineered edge of the docks. On the east side, the Itchen Bridge crosses to Woolston, and the common and the university grounds open up in the north.

Old town walls
The medieval walls and the Bargate enclose the oldest streets at the southern end, a small irregular pocket set against the straighter roads further north.
Western docks
A long, geometric line of quays and berths runs along the shore of the Test estuary, one of the most striking engineered edges on any British coastline.

Zakaj Southampton
Zemljevid, ki nekaj pomeni
Southampton means a lot to people who studied there, sailed from its docks or grew up among its terraces. On a wall, the rivers, walls and quays read as a clear graphic shape, even to someone who has never been to the city.
The title, subtitle and coordinates can all be changed, so the print can mark a graduation year, a departure or a street address. It comes in five styles, Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand, and each suits the busy lines of the waterfront in a different way.
