Straubing Map Poster & Print
Straubing lies on the Danube in Lower Bavaria, at the heart of the fertile Gäuboden plain. The old town is built around a long, broad market square that runs east to west, divided in the middle by the tall city tower. From above, this square forms a strong spine, with narrower streets branching off towards the river and the former town walls.
The town is widely known for the Gäubodenvolksfest, one of the largest folk festivals in Bavaria, held each August. Its history also includes the story of Agnes Bernauer, who was drowned in the Danube here in 1435 and whose fate is still retold in plays. The river runs along the northern side of town, with wide meadows along its banks.
A Straubing map poster shows a clear medieval layout set against a big river. The long square, the ring of streets around the old centre and the curve of the Danube give the map a strong structure. Around it, newer districts spread across the flat land of the Gäuboden.

Danube and meadows
The Danube passes along the north of the centre, with open meadows and side channels that give the map a wide, flowing edge.
Gäuboden plain
Around the town, the flat, fertile Gäuboden stretches out in large fields, so the built-up area is framed by open, even country.
