Compact town core
The streets gather into a tight, roughly rounded centre with no river or hill to distort it, so the town reads as a single solid shape on the plain.

Suruç Map Poster & Print
Suruç lies in the south of Şanlıurfa province, on the flat, irrigated plain that stretches toward the Syrian frontier. From above there is little relief to interrupt the plan: the town forms a compact block of streets, and around it the land is divided into large, regular fields crossed by straight farm roads and irrigation lines. Kobani lies just to the south, across the border.
This is one of the oldest farmed landscapes in the world, and in recent decades water from the Southeastern Anatolia Project has turned much of the surrounding plain into cotton and cereal land. The town serves as the market centre for the nearby villages, and in 2014 it took in many people fleeing the fighting across the border in Kobani.
A Suruç map poster is an exercise in geometry. The denser web of the town sits inside a patchwork of rectangles, and long straight roads run toward the edges of the frame. The result is spare and calm, well suited to the flatness of the place and to the restraint of the black-and-white treatment.

Irrigated field grid
Around the town, large rectangular fields and straight irrigation channels create a crisp, repeated pattern that fills the outer part of the poster.
Roads to the border
Straight roads lead south toward the frontier and north toward Şanlıurfa, drawing long clean lines that give the composition its orientation.

Zakaj Suruç
Zemljevid, ki nekaj pomeni
For people from Suruç and its villages, many of whom now live in larger Turkish cities or abroad, the map is a direct link to one plain and one town. Its simplicity also makes it an understated piece for any wall.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can carry a family name or an important date. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, with Sand echoing the dry colours of the plain. The HD files cost $9, or you can order a print.
