Tai’an Map Poster & Print
Tai’an is a town within the municipality of Chongqing, in the western part of the Sichuan Basin, a region of low rolling hills, small rivers and intensively cultivated land. From above the town appears as a compact cluster of streets set into the undulating terrain, surrounded by a finely divided landscape of fields and scattered farmhouses.
In this part of China, settlement follows the lie of the land. Roads curve to keep to valley floors, fields step up the slopes in terraces, and the built-up area concentrates where the ground is level enough to support it. On a map the result is irregular and organic, quite different from the strict grids of newer Chinese cities.
A Tai’an map poster records that close relationship between town and terrain. The main streets form a clear spine, while the surrounding roads wind outward between hills. For people with family roots here, or for anyone drawn to the rural character of the Sichuan Basin, it is a quiet and distinctive image.

Winding rural roads
Roads leave the town following valleys and contours, curving rather than running straight, which gives the map a soft, flowing character.
Hill country setting
The surrounding landscape of low hills and cultivated slopes produces a loose, irregular pattern that fills the frame around the town.
