Taungoo Map Poster & Print
Taungoo lies in the Sittaung River valley in the Bago Region, between Yangon and Mandalay. From above, the most striking feature is the old city: a square enclosed by a moat and walls, whose outline remains clearly visible in the street pattern even as the town has grown around it.
Inside the moat, the streets follow a fairly regular layout, while outside they spread more loosely toward the river and along the main roads. The Sittaung flows to the east, a winding line that contrasts with the geometry of the old city square.
In the sixteenth century, Taungoo was the seat of the Toungoo dynasty, which went on to build one of the largest empires in Southeast Asian history. A Taungoo map poster shows how that royal past is still written into the town's plan, a square moat at its centre.

Outer town
Newer streets spread outside the moat along the main roads, with a looser pattern than the ordered old city.
