Timayy al Imdīd Map Poster & Print
Timayy al Imdīd lies in Dakahlia governorate in the eastern Nile Delta, in flat, intensively farmed country crossed by canals and drainage channels. From above, the land is divided into long, narrow field strips, and the town appears as a dense cluster of buildings and lanes, with roads following the canals and linking it to nearby villages and the larger city of Mansoura to the north.
The town takes its name from Tell Timai, the site of the ancient city of Thmuis, which became an important centre in the Graeco-Roman period. Nearby lies Tell el-Rub'a, ancient Mendes, once a capital of Egypt and a centre of the cult of the ram god. Excavations at both sites continue to add to knowledge of Delta history.
A Timayy al Imdīd map poster captures the particular texture of the Delta: the fine linear pattern of fields, the soft grid of canals and the compact form of the town. Archaeological mounds appear as open areas within the farmland, reminders of how long people have lived here. In monochrome, the composition feels both ordered and layered, like an agricultural ledger drawn in ink.
